Use Slack with AI via MCP
For many teams, Slack is the company's memory – decisions, discussions and knowledge live in channels and threads. Via the official Slack MCP server, AI agents in CompanyGPT access it directly: securely via OAuth, with each user's own permissions.
What is Slack?
Slack is one of the most widely used messaging platforms for businesses. Teams organize their communication in channels, share files and connect hundreds of third-party applications. Since the acquisition by Salesforce, Slack has been a fixture of many enterprise IT landscapes – including the DACH region.
For AI use, Slack is particularly interesting as a knowledge source: channels and threads hold documented project knowledge that classic search struggles to surface. This is exactly where the MCP connection comes in.

How to Connect Slack to CompanyGPT
Slack operates an official MCP server at mcp.slack.com, available since February 2026 (changelog entry of 17 February 2026) and reachable via streamable HTTP. CompanyGPT connects directly to this endpoint; no additional third-party infrastructure is involved.
Slack currently allows MCP access for Marketplace apps and internal company apps; approval is granted by the workspace admin. Sign-in happens per user via OAuth with PKCE: each employee authorizes access with their own Slack account and sees through CompanyGPT only the channels they can see in Slack. Your Slack workspace admin approves MCP access for CompanyGPT once – after that, authorized users activate the integration right in the chat. In CompanyGPT, your administrators additionally control by role and group who may use the Slack integration at all.
Typical Use Cases
How AI agents in CompanyGPT work with Slack
Find project knowledge
Instead of scrolling through threads: the agent searches relevant channels and answers questions like “What was discussed about the supplier decision?” with references to the sources.
Summarize discussions
Long channel discussions become a structured summary with open items and responsibilities on request – ideal after a vacation or before a meeting.
Turn knowledge into documents
Results from Slack threads flow directly into minutes, decision papers or wiki articles – combined with other CompanyGPT integrations such as Confluence or companyFILES.
Frequently Asked Questions
Slack and AI – the most important answers
Does Slack have an official MCP server?
Yes. Slack operates an official MCP server at mcp.slack.com with streamable HTTP as transport, available since February 2026. No server installation of your own is required.
Does the AI see all Slack messages in my company?
No. Sign-in happens per user via OAuth – an agent only sees the channels and messages the signed-in user can see in Slack itself. Private channels and other users' direct messages remain inaccessible.
What does our Slack admin need to do?
The workspace administrator approves MCP access for CompanyGPT as a client once. Slack currently allows MCP access for Marketplace apps and internal company apps – which route fits your setup is something we clarify during the project. After that, employees authorize their accounts themselves via OAuth – no further IT involvement needed.
Is the connection GDPR-compliant?
CompanyGPT runs in your own cloud tenant and communicates directly with the Slack MCP endpoint – without intermediaries. The data protection assessment of Slack itself as a processor remains unaffected and stays with your existing Slack contract.
Can the AI also send messages in Slack?
The scope of functions depends on the tools provided by the Slack MCP server and can be restricted per agent in CompanyGPT – for example to pure search and summarization without write access.
