What is SAP S/4HANA?
SAP S/4HANA is SAP SE’s flagship ERP suite, covering finance, logistics, procurement, manufacturing and sales in one consistent data model. It runs on the SAP HANA in-memory database and is deployed as public cloud, private cloud (RISE with SAP) or classically in the customer’s own data center. Across large German enterprises and the upper mid-market, it is the most widely used ERP platform.
What makes S/4HANA compelling for AI work is that it holds structured truth: an agent reading document line items, vendor master data or order status straight from the ERP has nothing to guess at. At the same time, access for business departments is usually tied to transaction codes and report authorizations – a conversational interface lowers that barrier noticeably without bypassing the authorization model.

How to Connect SAP S/4HANA to CompanyGPT
For S/4HANA business data, SAP does not currently provide an MCP server, and the community projects circulating today are still at an early stage. The dependable route therefore runs through the documented standard interfaces.
S/4HANA exposes its business objects via OData v2 and v4 APIs documented in the SAP Business Accelerator Hub, complemented by REST, SOAP and the classic RFC/BAPI and IDoc channels. Together with your SAP team we select the services you actually need, set up a dedicated communication arrangement with its own technical user, and publish those services as an MCP integration inside your CompanyGPT environment. The general rule: any API with an OpenAPI or OData description can be made available as an MCP tool this way.
Authentication uses OAuth 2.0, basic auth, X.509 certificates or SAML depending on the deployment. Access is scoped to exactly the services and fields a given use case requires – read-only or read-write. Inside CompanyGPT, your administrators then decide by role and group which teams see the SAP integration at all. If S/4HANA runs in a private cloud or on-premises landscape, the link is established through the SAP Cloud Connector or a dedicated network connection.
Note for on-premises operation: CompanyGPT runs in your own Azure tenant – so your on-premises network can be connected directly: via a site-to-site VPN (Azure VPN Gateway) or ExpressRoute between your corporate network and the virtual network of your CompanyGPT environment. The system does not need to be publicly reachable; we set up the connection together with your IT team.

The technical connection uses a defined service user with a tightly scoped authorization profile. Who in the company may use the integration is additionally controlled by your administrators in CompanyGPT via roles and groups.
