What is Microsoft SharePoint?
Microsoft SharePoint is the platform for intranet, team sites and document management within Microsoft 365. Content is organized in sites and libraries, enriched with metadata, versioned and shared through permission groups. In many organizations SharePoint also provides the storage behind Teams channels.
That makes SharePoint one of the richest internal knowledge sources for AI applications. The value only materializes, though, when answers point back to specific documents and access rights continue to apply unchanged – an MCP connection covers both.

How to Connect Microsoft SharePoint to CompanyGPT
For SharePoint we use companyM365, our Microsoft 365 addon. It runs as an MCP server inside your CompanyGPT environment, is connected over streamable HTTP and accesses sites, libraries and files through Microsoft Graph. No Copilot licenses are required.
Authorization happens per user via Entra ID. Since SharePoint permissions are granted at a fine-grained level, this matters: an agent can only read the sites and documents the signed-in user is entitled to. Your administrators register the application once in the tenant and grant consent for the required permissions; in CompanyGPT you additionally decide by role and group who may use the integration.
Microsoft’s own Agent 365 catalog lists Work IQ SharePoint (preview; a separate Work IQ server covers OneDrive) – the SharePoint server spans sites, libraries, files and lists. It requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license per user. In addition, SharePoint knowledge can be prepared as a searchable knowledge store with companyRAG when large document collections need to be queried continuously.

Are SharePoint permissions respected?
Yes. Access happens on behalf of the signed-in user via Entra ID. Sites, libraries or individual documents the user is not entitled to remain invisible to the agent.
Do documents have to be copied or indexed first?
Not for the MCP connection – content is retrieved at runtime. If you want to query very large document collections regularly, companyRAG can additionally be used as a knowledge store.
What does IT have to set up once?
An app registration in Entra ID including admin consent for the required Graph permissions. After that, employees connect their Microsoft account themselves.
Where does the data sit during use?
The documents remain in your Microsoft 365 tenant. CompanyGPT runs in your own cloud tenant and retrieves content only for the specific request – with no detour via third-party servers.
