Use Microsoft Dynamics 365 with AI via MCP
Dynamics 365 holds the business data sales, service and finance work with every day – well structured, yet often several clicks away. Unlike the other Microsoft 365 services, Dynamics 365 is connected through the official Dataverse MCP server, which is generally available.
What is Microsoft Dynamics 365?
Microsoft Dynamics 365 is Microsoft’s application family for CRM and ERP processes, covering Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Finance and Supply Chain Management. The applications share their data in Dataverse, the data platform behind Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform, including a security model with roles, business units and field-level permissions.
That is a favorable starting point for AI agents: the data is clearly modeled and the permission logic is already part of the platform. Questions about a customer’s status, open service cases or the current pipeline can be answered straight from the system of record – no exports in between.

How to Connect Microsoft Dynamics 365 to CompanyGPT
Microsoft provides an official, generally available MCP server for Dataverse. The endpoint lives in your own environment at https://{org}.crm.dynamics.com/api/mcp and is reachable via streamable HTTP. CompanyGPT connects to it directly; no third-party infrastructure is involved.
Authentication runs through Entra ID with OAuth. Your Dynamics administrators enable MCP access per environment – so you decide deliberately whether to connect the production environment or start with a test environment. During access, the Dataverse security roles of the signed-in user continue to apply, so nobody sees more records through CompanyGPT than in Dynamics 365 itself.
One point for budgeting: when accessed from MCP clients outside Copilot Studio, Microsoft bills the Dataverse MCP tools through Copilot Credits unless the user holds a Dynamics 365 premium or Microsoft 365 Copilot license. It is worth checking this against your licensing before a broad rollout.
In CompanyGPT, your administrators then release the integration to specific roles and groups, for example only to sales or customer service. The scope of functions can be tailored per agent – from pure analysis through to maintaining records in the CRM.

Frequently Asked Questions
Microsoft Dynamics 365 and AI – the most important answers
Does Dynamics 365 have an official MCP server?
Yes. Microsoft operates an official, generally available MCP server for Dataverse. The endpoint sits in your own Dynamics environment at https://{org}.crm.dynamics.com/api/mcp and is addressed via streamable HTTP.
How is access enabled?
An administrator enables it per environment. Users then sign in through Entra ID with their Microsoft account, and in CompanyGPT you release the integration to the roles and groups you want.
Does an agent see all CRM records?
No. The signed-in user's Dataverse security roles apply, including business units and field-level permissions. Records outside those rights stay invisible.
Can the AI create or change data in Dynamics 365?
Write actions are possible through the MCP server as far as the user's rights allow. In CompanyGPT the scope of functions can be limited per agent, for example to read and analysis tasks only.
Does the same apply to Microsoft 365 services like Teams or Outlook?
No, those work differently: Microsoft 365 services are connected through our companyM365 addon, which works without Copilot licenses. Dynamics 365, by contrast, uses the official Dataverse MCP server.
