Use iTAC.MES.Suite with AI via MCP
In electronics and automotive supply manufacturing, complete traceability is mandatory – and the iTAC.MES.Suite holds that data. No MCP server exists for it. We connect the system to CompanyGPT individually through its documented standard API, coordinated with your IT team.
What is iTAC.MES.Suite?
The iTAC.MES.Suite is the manufacturing execution system of iTAC Software AG in Montabaur, Germany, part of the Dürr Group. It targets discrete manufacturing with a clear focus on electronics production and automotive suppliers. Its strengths lie in traceability, production control and the management of quality and inspection data; it is also part of Dürr’s digital manufacturing ecosystem.
For AI agents the appeal is the depth of the data: for a single serial number, process steps, test results and installed components are all recorded. Exactly that chain matters in complaint and quality cases – and it is laborious to reconstruct by hand. An assistant allowed to query the suite can assemble such chains and present them in readable form.

How to Connect iTAC.MES.Suite to CompanyGPT
There is no MCP server for the iTAC.MES.Suite. The path leads through the IMSApi, the suite’s documented standard interface, which depending on the release offers REST and SOAP calls; event-based interfaces and the connection into Dürr’s DXQ environment complement it. We develop a custom MCP integration on that basis.
Access uses a dedicated API or service user that signs in via session and token mechanisms. Which calls the assistant may use is defined together with your MES owners and mapped as clearly bounded tools inside the MCP server. That server runs as a container in your CompanyGPT environment, so credentials and retrieved data stay in your tenant.
As the suite typically runs inside the plant network, network connectivity is part of the project and is implemented together with your IT team. Where you prefer not to open calls directly, an automation gateway such as n8n can sit in between and pass on only defined queries.
Note for on-premises operation: CompanyGPT runs in your own Azure tenant – so your on-premises network can be connected directly: via a site-to-site VPN (Azure VPN Gateway) or ExpressRoute between your corporate network and the virtual network of your CompanyGPT environment. The system does not need to be publicly reachable; we set up the connection together with your IT team.
Typical Use Cases
How AI agents in CompanyGPT work with iTAC.MES.Suite
Speed up traceability
Quality assurance asks for the history of a serial number and receives process steps, test results and affected batches as one coherent view.
Condense defect patterns
For an assembly, the most frequent test failures within a period can be retrieved as groundwork for the 8D analysis carried out by the specialist team.
Check line status
Production control clarifies in chat how far an order has progressed on the line and where it currently sits, without opening the MES front end.
Frequently Asked Questions
iTAC.MES.Suite and AI – the most important answers
Does iTAC provide an MCP server?
No. As of August 2026 there is neither a vendor nor a community MCP server for the iTAC.MES.Suite. Connecting AI assistants is done individually through the IMSApi.
What is the IMSApi?
The IMSApi is the documented standard interface of the iTAC.MES.Suite. Depending on the release it offers REST and SOAP calls and is also used to connect ERP and surrounding systems – which makes it the basis for an MCP integration.
How do you ensure the assistant only sees permitted data?
On two levels: the API user receives only the rights needed for the agreed queries, and the MCP server exposes only the agreed calls as tools. On top of that, roles and groups in CompanyGPT control who has access.
Does this work with a segmented plant network?
Yes. The link between your CompanyGPT environment and the suite is established securely and aligned with your network and approval policies. Public reachability of the MES is not required.
Can traceability data leave the company?
No. CompanyGPT runs as an isolated instance in your cloud tenant, and so does the MCP server. Retrieved manufacturing and inspection data stays inside that environment.
