CompanyGPT Integration MCP server: streamable HTTP

Use Gmail with AI via MCP

In many companies the real course of business is decided by email – spread across thousands of threads nobody can keep track of. Google provides a dedicated, Google-operated MCP server for Gmail, currently as a developer preview. CompanyGPT connects to it via OAuth, using a client ID from your own Google Cloud project.

What is Gmail?

Gmail is Google’s email service and, in a business context, part of Google Workspace. Instead of classic folders it works with labels, conversation threads and a very capable full-text search. Google Groups additionally allow shared mailboxes for team addresses such as info@ or support@, and administration runs centrally through the Workspace Admin console.

What makes Gmail interesting for AI agents is that the history of a case lives there: quotes, follow-up questions, commitments and escalations. An assistant allowed to read the user’s own mailbox can surface that history in seconds instead of leaving employees to work through search results by hand.

How to Connect Gmail to CompanyGPT

Google operates a dedicated MCP endpoint for Gmail at gmailmcp.googleapis.com/mcp/v1, reachable via streamable HTTP. The server is currently in developer preview – meaning it is usable today, but tool names, scope and availability may still change before general availability. We state this openly because it matters when planning a production rollout.

Authentication runs through OAuth 2.0 with your own client ID: your company creates an OAuth client in its own Google Cloud project and stores those credentials in CompanyGPT. Authorization therefore happens strictly between your users, your Google project and your CompanyGPT instance. Every employee authorizes their own account, and your IT can additionally control through the Workspace Admin console which applications are permitted in the tenant at all.

Inside CompanyGPT, your administrators then decide by role and group who may use the Gmail integration and for which agents it is active – for a sales team only, for instance, or restricted to read-only scenarios.

Typical Use Cases

How AI agents in CompanyGPT work with Gmail

Reconstruct a case history

Inside sales asks what was last agreed with a particular customer – the agent searches the user's own threads and returns a chronological summary with the relevant messages.

Triage the inbox

After a longer absence the assistant groups unread messages by topic and urgency instead of leaving employees to scan hundreds of subject lines one by one.

Prepare replies

Based on the thread and additional CompanyGPT sources, a reply draft is written in the right tone – review and sending stay with a human.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gmail and AI – the most important answers

Is there an official MCP server for Gmail?

Yes. Google provides a dedicated, Google-operated MCP server at gmailmcp.googleapis.com/mcp/v1. It is in developer preview, so it can already be used but is not yet generally available.

What does developer preview mean for production use?

The endpoint is available, but Google may adjust tools and behaviour before general availability. We therefore recommend starting with a clearly scoped pilot group and support the transition once the server reaches general availability.

Does the AI read other employees' mailboxes?

No. Authorization happens per user via OAuth. An agent only sees messages in the mailbox the signed-in user authorized themselves.

Why do we need our own OAuth client ID?

Because it keeps the connection fully under your control: the OAuth client lives in your Google Cloud project, you define the scopes granted and can revoke access centrally at any time.

How does this work in terms of data protection?

CompanyGPT runs in your own cloud tenant and talks directly to the Google endpoint, with no intermediaries. Google's processing of your Gmail data continues to be governed by your existing Workspace agreement.
