CompanyGPT Integration MCP server: streamable HTTP

Use Confluence with AI via MCP

In many companies Confluence is the documented memory – but knowledge only helps if you can find it. The official Atlassian Rovo MCP server makes spaces and pages accessible to CompanyGPT without loosening a single permission.

What is Confluence?

Confluence is Atlassian’s wiki and documentation platform. Teams store content in spaces, structure it in page trees, collaborate on drafts and link pages closely to Jira issues. Typical content ranges from architecture and operations documentation through process descriptions and onboarding handbooks to meeting minutes and decision papers.

For AI use, Confluence is one of the richest internal sources available: the content is already edited, versioned and permission-controlled. An agent with access answers questions not from general world knowledge but from the decisions that actually apply in your organization – ideally with a reference to the underlying page.

How to Connect Confluence to CompanyGPT

Access runs through Atlassian’s Rovo MCP server, which is generally available at mcp.atlassian.com/v1/mcp/authv2 over streamable HTTP. This is the same endpoint used for Jira and Bitbucket – so one configured Atlassian connection covers several products, provided they are enabled in your organization.

For sign-in, OAuth 2.1 and an Atlassian API token are available – the latter provided API token authentication has been enabled by the organization admin. With OAuth, every employee authorizes with their own account, which means Confluence space and page permissions keep applying unchanged: a restricted space stays restricted, even when the question is asked through the AI assistant.

Atlassian’s older SSE-based access has no longer been supported since 30 June 2026, so we always set connections up over streamable HTTP. In CompanyGPT, your administrators use roles and groups to decide which user groups may use the Confluence integration – starting, for example, with support and technical writing only.

Typical Use Cases

How AI agents in CompanyGPT work with Confluence

Answers from your own documentation

Employees ask about an approval rule or a process step and get the answer from the current Confluence page – including a pointer to the source.

Build onboarding material

Scattered pages across a space turn into a structured getting-started guide for new colleagues that the department only needs to review.

Keep documentation current

Technical writing has the agent check which pages exist on a topic, where statements contradict each other and which sections look outdated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Confluence and AI – the most important answers

Is there an official MCP server for Confluence?

Yes. Confluence is connected through the generally available Atlassian Rovo MCP server at mcp.atlassian.com/v1/mcp/authv2, using streamable HTTP as transport.

Is this the same access as for Jira?

Yes, Atlassian uses one shared MCP endpoint for Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket. A single configured connection can therefore cover several products, provided they are enabled for your organization.

Do restricted spaces stay protected?

Yes. Access happens with the rights of the connected Atlassian account. Spaces and pages with restricted visibility are just as inaccessible to the agent as they are to the user.

How does this differ from companyRAG?

The MCP connection queries Confluence live and always works on the current state. companyRAG indexes documents for semantic search. Both can be combined – which option fits is something we clarify in a workshop.

Can the assistant create or edit pages?

That depends on the tools the Rovo MCP server exposes and on the account's rights. In CompanyGPT an agent can deliberately be limited to read-only when changes should go through editorial approval.
