Use CGM medico with AI via MCP
CGM medico consolidates clinical and administrative documentation in around 250 German hospitals. CompuGroup Medical does not offer an MCP server for the system, so connecting it to CompanyGPT is an integration project built on the established hospital interfaces HL7 v2 and ISiK FHIR.
What is CGM medico?
CGM medico is the hospital information system (HIS) of CompuGroup Medical SE & Co. KGaA, headquartered in Koblenz, Germany. It covers patient administration, clinical documentation, operating theatre management, diagnostics and billing in a single system and traditionally runs inside the hospital’s protected network. According to the vendor, medico is in use in around 250 German hospitals.
For AI applications, an HIS is a particularly sensitive data source: it holds health data covered by Article 9 GDPR, medical confidentiality and state hospital legislation. A connection therefore works best where the data scope is tightly defined – administrative master data, occupancy and case figures, or pseudonymized data sets for controlling and quality management. Which fields an agent may access at all is defined before implementation begins.

How to Connect CGM medico to CompanyGPT
There is currently no MCP server for CGM medico – neither from the vendor nor as a mature community project. Using the system with CompanyGPT is still possible, but the connection is built individually around your system landscape.
The foundation is the set of interfaces your hospital already operates: HL7 v2 via the communication server and FHIR via the ISiK interfaces mandated by Section 373 of the German Social Code Book V, complemented by DICOM and the KIM/TI connection. From these we model MCP tools with fixed, predefined queries – each tool returns exactly the fields intended for the approved use case. Access runs through interface accounts that your IT department issues, logs and can revoke at any time.
Inside CompanyGPT, your administrators then use roles and groups to decide which departments see the integration at all. By default we configure read-only access; write operations against the HIS are only implemented after explicit approval and in coordination with your data protection officer. The technical work is carried out together with your IT team and, depending on your support model, with the partner that maintains medico for you.
Note for on-premises operation: CompanyGPT runs in your own Azure tenant – so your on-premises network can be connected directly: via a site-to-site VPN (Azure VPN Gateway) or ExpressRoute between your corporate network and the virtual network of your CompanyGPT environment. The system does not need to be publicly reachable; we set up the connection together with your IT team.
Typical Use Cases
How AI agents in CompanyGPT work with CGM medico
Analyze occupancy and utilization
Administration and nursing management query occupancy, length of stay or case numbers in natural language instead of pulling reports out of the system by hand.
Support medical controlling
The agent compiles cases with incomplete documentation and explains coding rules – the professional review and sign-off stay with the controlling team.
Answer administrative questions
Admissions staff and department offices clarify questions about appointments, responsibilities or ward occupancy in chat, without clicking through multiple HIS screens.
Frequently Asked Questions
CGM medico and AI – the most important answers
Does CGM medico have an MCP server?
No. CompuGroup Medical does not offer an MCP server for medico, and no mature community project exists either. We therefore build the CompanyGPT connection individually on top of the existing hospital interfaces.
How is medico connected to an AI assistant then?
Via HL7 v2 on your communication server and via FHIR following the ISiK standard that Section 373 SGB V requires of German hospitals. We wrap the necessary queries as MCP tools that CompanyGPT can call in a targeted way.
Does the AI see patient data?
Only the data you explicitly release. The scope is defined per tool, and many use cases work with aggregated or pseudonymized data. What an agent may see is decided before implementation, together with your data protection officer.
Does data leave the hospital network?
CompanyGPT runs in your own cloud tenant, not at a third-party provider. A dedicated, encrypted link connects the HIS and CompanyGPT. All data flows are documented during the project and can be transferred into your record of processing activities.
How large is such an integration project?
That depends on the use case and on the interfaces already in place. We usually start with one narrowly scoped scenario, clarify approvals and data protection questions, and only then expand step by step.
