CompanyGPT Integration MCP server: streamable HTTP

Use Bitbucket with AI via MCP

In many Atlassian landscapes Bitbucket is part of the standard toolset, sitting right next to Jira and Confluence. The MCP connection runs through Atlassian's Rovo MCP server – for Bitbucket, however, exclusively with an API token carrying the appropriate scopes.

What is Bitbucket?

Bitbucket is Atlassian’s Git platform. Teams manage repositories there, run code reviews through pull requests, define branch permissions and automate builds with Bitbucket Pipelines. It is especially common in organizations already invested in Jira and Confluence, since commits and pull requests can be linked directly to Jira issues.

For AI agents, that linkage is the real value: the path from a requirement in a ticket through the pull request to the build result is available as one connected story. Agents can therefore trace how far an issue has been implemented, summarize changes in business terms, or help reviewers make sense of a pull request.

How to Connect Bitbucket to CompanyGPT

Bitbucket is connected through Atlassian’s Rovo MCP server – the same endpoint that serves Jira and Confluence. Access is designed for Bitbucket Cloud, with streamable HTTP as the transport.

Unlike the other Atlassian products, Bitbucket offers no OAuth sign-in path. Authentication happens exclusively through an Atlassian API token with scopes tied to the connected account.

Two prerequisites have to be in place for this to work: first, the organization admin must enable API token authentication with scopes; second, the Bitbucket workspace must be linked to your Atlassian organization. We plan both steps together with your IT team during rollout.

Because the token carries the rights of a specific account, we recommend deciding deliberately which account is stored – for instance one with read access to the relevant repositories. In CompanyGPT, your administrators additionally control via roles and groups which teams may invoke the Bitbucket integration at all.

Typical Use Cases

How AI agents in CompanyGPT work with Bitbucket

Make sense of pull requests

Ahead of a review, the developer gets a summary of what a pull request changes, including the link to the related Jira issue.

Trace implementation progress

Project leads ask which changes for a requirement have already been merged and receive the corresponding pull requests as an overview.

Document the repository landscape

For an architecture review, the agent compiles which repositories exist in a workspace, how active they are and what they are responsible for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bitbucket and AI – the most important answers

Does Bitbucket have its own MCP server?

Bitbucket is not connected through a separate server but is part of the Atlassian Rovo MCP for the cloud products. The endpoint is the same one used for Jira and Confluence.

Can we sign in via OAuth?

For Bitbucket, access is limited to authentication with an Atlassian API token with scopes; an OAuth sign-in path is not available here. For Jira and Confluence, OAuth is possible.

What does our administrator need to do?

Two things: the organization admin enables API token authentication with scopes, and the Bitbucket workspace must be linked to your Atlassian organization. Only then can the integration be configured and used in CompanyGPT.

Which repositories does the assistant see?

Access follows the account the stored API token belongs to. We recommend choosing that account deliberately and limiting access to the repositories actually needed.

Does this work with Bitbucket Data Center?

The Atlassian MCP connection is designed for Bitbucket Cloud. For self-operated installations we evaluate a custom connection over the existing REST API and align network access with your IT team.
